The games below are ones that can be used in the "Buddy Game" center. They are not grouped by ability because many can be adjusted for a wide range of abilities and mathematical focuses.

Even Steven, Odd Todd – simple board game where children roll dice and if it’s even, the even player moves. If it’s odd, the odd player moves. Game:

Math Tic Tac Toe – tic tac toe with math concepts instead of x's and o's. You can do even/odd numbers, fractions greater than a desired number or smaller than desired number, decimals, fractions, percents, math facts, basically anything that you want the children to compare and contrast.

The Greatest- each player draws three Uno cards and makes the biggest number they can with them. Whoever gets the biggest number gets 1 point. Then, players add their digits up. Whoever has the highest sum also gets a point.

The Frame War-Print copies of the ten frame cards from the website below as well as copies of the other words cards. Students will play war and whoever has the highest number gets to keep the cards. Whoever has the most cards at the end wins.
Ten Frame Cards

Counting On- Students roll dice and work on finding the difference between the numbers. They tally which number rolled the most and answer questions regarding their game.

Number Line Race- Make a number line and get out two counters. Children roll dice or draw number cards to add, subtract, multiply, or divide their way down the number line. Also great for fractions, decimals, and percents.

Race to Trace- students roll dice and trace the sum of the numbers with different color markers. Whoever traces the last number wins. This could be used with any operation, fractions, decimals, percents, or pretty much anything.

Shape Fill In- students roll dice and fill in that number of squares on the picture. Whoever fills in the most squares wins.


Race to 20, Race to 50- (or Race to any other number through addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division). Students roll dice and add up their numbers. Whoever gets to 20 or 50 first wins.

Flip 10- played with Uno cards in an array and flipped over like memory. Take turns trying to flip pairs that make 10.

Fishing for 10s- played with Uno cards, students need to ask their partner for the cards they need to make 10 or draw from the pile.

Yatzee- students roll dice trying to find sums 2-12. First person to cross off all sums on their sheet wins. Addition, subtraction, multiplication, etc.

Crossout Tower- students roll dice to try to cross off sums of 1-12 on a chart that looks similar to a hopscotch board. Subtraction and multiplication can be used too.

Math Bang- students draw sticks with basic facts on them. If they answer correctly they can keep it.

If they draw a stick that says "bang", they must put all their sticks back. Person with the most sticks in the end wins.

Bump- similar to tic tac toe only students are rolling dice for sums of numbers and putting a marker down when they find it. 3 markers need to be on a spot before that spot is theirs to keep. Any fewer markers on a spot and they can be bumped if the other student gets that same number. First one to get 3 in a row wins. The first document below is a blank board and the others are addition ones according to the Rocket Math levels.

Under the Cave- Students pull out a certain number of jewels (fish tank decorations) and tell their partner how many they pulled out. Then they hide some in a cave (cool whip container made to look like a cave) and their partner has to decide how many are in the cave. If they get it right, they can keep them. Person with the most jewels at the end wins.

Race to a Quarter- students roll the dice and earn that many pennies. Students change their pennies in for nickles, nickles in for dimes, dimes and a nickel into a quarter. First person to get a quarter wins. Can also be played with a dollar. Below are two versions.
